Right to Left Writing
Arabic is written from right to left. Numbers may still appear left to right depending on context.
Short Vowels
Fatha is a short a, kasra is a short i, and damma is a short u. Many everyday texts omit them.
Long Vowels
Alif, Waw, and Ya can work as long vowels, aa, oo, and ee.
Gender
Many Arabic nouns are masculine or feminine. Feminine words often end with ة.
The Definite Article
The word the is ال. Example, كتاب means book, الكتاب means the book.
Question Words
Common question words include من who, ماذا what, أين where, متى when, كيف how, لماذا why.
Possession
Arabic can attach endings to show my, your, his, her. كتابي means my book.
Adjectives
Adjectives usually come after the noun and often match gender and definiteness.
